Football market explainer
Over and under goals, explained by the score.
Over 1.5 goals needs two or more total goals. Under 4.5 goals needs zero to four. Add both teams’ goals for the time period named on the market. The decimal is a dividing line, not half a goal that somebody has to score.

Check a hypothetical scoreline
This demonstrates settlement for completed half-goal totals only. It does not predict a score, check a ticket or account for abandoned matches, corrections or operator-specific rules.
1–1 is 2 total goals. Over 1.5 wins; under 1.5 loses, for a completed match in the market’s stated time period.
Over 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5: what each line means
| Line | Over wins with | Under wins with | Example right above the line |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5 | 1 or more goals | 0 to 0 goals | 1–0: over 0.5 wins |
| 1.5 | 2 or more goals | 0 to 1 goals | 2–0: over 1.5 wins |
| 2.5 | 3 or more goals | 0 to 2 goals | 3–0: over 2.5 wins |
| 3.5 | 4 or more goals | 0 to 3 goals | 4–0: over 3.5 wins |
| 4.5 | 5 or more goals | 0 to 4 goals | 5–0: over 4.5 wins |
| 5.5 | 6 or more goals | 0 to 5 goals | 6–0: over 5.5 wins |
Does 1–1 win over 1.5?
Yes, if 1–1 is the relevant completed-period score: one plus one is two, which is greater than 1.5. A 2–0 score produces the same answer. The market does not require both teams to score, so over 1.5 and “both teams to score” are different selections.
A 1–0 result loses over 1.5 because the total is only one. A 0–0 result loses it too. The identity of the winner is irrelevant to this total-goals calculation.
What does under 4.5 mean on Betway?
For a standard completed-period total-goals market, under 4.5 wins with any total below five. Examples include 0–0, 2–1, 3–1 and 2–2. A 3–2 score has five goals and loses under 4.5. The same arithmetic applies to other operators’ equivalent market lines, but always check the exact market wording and rules.
Under 4.5 does not mean each team may score four. A 4–4 score is eight combined goals. “Team total under 4.5” would be a different market counting only the named team; this tool does not silently substitute one for the other.
Which minutes count?
Betway’s over/under 1.5 explainer describes the full-match market as the normal 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding extra time and penalties. That is the scope of its standard example, not a rule that every football product must use.

A first-half line counts only that half. A market explicitly including extra time has a different scope. Before checking a result, write down the market’s period and use the score at the end of that period. A match that goes from 1–0 after 90 minutes to 2–0 in extra time must not be entered as two goals for a 90-minute total.
Why there is no draw or refund at 1.5
A completed match has a whole-number goal total, so it cannot finish exactly on a half-goal line. It is above or below. This explanation does not cover whole-number Asian totals such as 2.0, split lines such as 2.25, void events or interrupted matches. Those require their own settlement rules; a half-goal checker cannot answer them.
This checks meaning, not whether a bet is good
Knowing what a market means does not establish the chance of it winning or whether its price is favourable. Choosing a higher under line can make more scorelines qualify while also changing the price. No scoreline example here is a tip, a banker or a promise of profit.
